Hello there! I’m Jenny, a Limited Licensed Professional Counselor. I’m committed to providing you with a safe place where you can experience unconditional acceptance and validation of what you’re feeling and experiencing. I’ll stand with you and support you in your journey toward greater wellbeing by providing you with the clinical support and guidance that works best for you.
Counseling Approach
I approach counseling from a collaborative perspective that integrates Narrative and Person-Centered approaches to better understand you: who you are, what matters to you, and the goals you would like to achieve in therapy. At times, I will suggest using personality assessments like the Enneagram and other assessment tools like the GAD-7, PHQ-9, and Gottman Relationship Check-Up to bring to light the level of distress you might be experiencing.
As I get to know you, and after we have explored your perspective and experience for a few sessions, I will suggest using the best-practice approaches that align with your specific needs and that also resonate with you. These trauma-informed approaches include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and aspects of Internal Family Systems (IFS). I’m also trained in EMDR. In my experience, the most effective approach often involves use of a combination of these.
Education & Experience
I completed my master’s degree in counseling at Spring Arbor University and have a bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Grand Valley State University. I specialize in helping people cope with situational stressors, trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, and relationship stress. I work with a full spectrum of ages, including children (12 years of age and older), youth, and adults. I have experience as a counselor in private practice settings and past roles in which I served throughout my academic and occupational life.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, doing just about anything creative with my hands, spending quality time with my pets, reading, listening to music, and watching films. If you would like to schedule an initial session, call 616-499-4711 or click the "Schedule With Jenny" button below. I'd be glad to meet with you and help you explore the next steps.
